Pregnancy Chiropractic in Libertyville
Gentle, drug-free relief for back, hip, rib, and sciatic pain—before, during, and after pregnancy.
Growing a baby changes everything about how you move and feel. As your center of gravity shifts and ligaments loosen, the spine, pelvis, ribs, and hips work harder than ever. That can create neck pain, mid-back tightness, low-back pain, pelvic discomfort, and sciatica—often in the same week.
At Community Chiropractic Care, I’ve helped expectant moms for decades—including adjusting women right up to the day they’re due and soon after delivery (when safe). Care is gentle, tailored, and drug-free, focused on helping you move comfortably so you can sleep, breathe, and enjoy your pregnancy.
Recent research in PubMed highlights chiropractic care as a safe, non-pharmacological option for supporting spinal and pelvic balance during pregnancy.
Why Pregnancy Can Hurt (And What We Do About It)
Hormones & ligaments. Relaxin makes ligaments more flexible so your pelvis can open for birth. Great for delivery, hard on joint stability.
Posture shifts. Baby grows → pelvis tips → low back and ribs work overtime.
Pelvic mechanics. If one side of the pelvis moves differently than the other, the sacroiliac joints and surrounding muscles can irritate nerves and create sciatica.
Breathing mechanics. A lifting rib cage can cause rib and mid-back pain (hello, third trimester).
How I help:
Gentle, pregnancy-modified spinal & pelvic adjustments to restore motion and balance.
Soft-tissue work for overworked muscles (glutes, piriformis, QL, intercostals).
Simple at-home actions (3 quick, safe drills) so relief lasts between visits.
Positioning that’s comfortable at every stage (pregnancy pillows, side-lying, drop-table when appropriate).
Most expectant patients tell me they feel a noticeable difference in 1–3 visits.
Conditions We Commonly Help During Pregnancy

Pelvic girdle pain (SI joints, pubic symphysis)

Is Chiropractic Safe During Pregnancy?
Short answer: When delivered by a licensed chiropractor using pregnancy-appropriate techniques and positioning, spinal manipulation for pregnancy-related back/pelvic pain appears to be safe and is associated with symptom improvement. Large randomized trials are limited, but the best available reviews and safety audits report very few serious adverse events and support using chiropractic/manual therapy as part of a multimodal, drug-free plan. What the evidence says
Safety: Systematic reviews of published case reports found only a small number of adverse events in pregnancy or postpartum following spinal manipulation; injuries “may be relatively rare.” PMC+1
Effectiveness for pregnancy back/pelvic pain: Multiple reviews (JMPT and Medicine journal) report improvement in pregnancy-related low back and pelvic girdle pain with chiropractic/manual therapies; evidence quality is low–moderate, so more rigorous trials are still needed. PubMed+2JMP Online+2
Guidelines & best practice: A 2022 best-practice consensus gives practical recommendations for chiropractic care of pregnant/postpartum patients with LBP/PGP (screening, modified techniques, positioning, coordination with OB providers). JMP Online
Authoritative consumer guidance: The NCCIH notes that reports of serious adverse events from spinal manipulation during pregnancy are very rare, while also pointing out the limited amount of rigorous research and advising discussion with your prenatal provider. NCCIH
Broader non-drug care: Cochrane reviews support non-pharmacologic approaches (e.g., exercise, manual therapy packages, acupuncture) for pregnancy-related back/pelvic pain. Chiropractic care commonly fits within this multimodal approach. Cochrane+1
OB perspective: ACOG encourages non-drug strategies for back pain in pregnancy (posture, exercise, physical therapies), aligning with chiropractic’s conservative care approach. ACOG
